The Nigerian System. The Nigerian Problem
In Nigeria, we have a problem. And the problem is the system.
But having identified this problem to be the system, the operating system, the system of doing things, the installed system, for instance the political system, we let it be.
And afterwards, to solve the problem on hand, we set out to improve the system. And we soon discover that we are getting more problems instead.
But Why?
Because by improving the system we end up improving the problem, since the problem is the system. So we discover that after improving the system, for example by injecting New ideas into the system, the problem escalates and remains intact, unchallenged and even more intractable and more formidable than before.
This is the fate of Nigeria.
Then the best brains from the industry cannot solve our simple, natural, human problems.
The best educated men from our universities cannot solve the problems.
The General Overseers and the Chief Imams from our religious houses can only debate our problems without solving them.
The best politicians do not even have ideas so they tour overseas to import alien systems and incorporate into the extant systems. The politicians are out of the possibilities.
The soldiers are handicapped because our problem does not respond to guns or orders, so needless looking up to them.
Again Why?
Because in Nigeria, we engage each of the above classes of potential leadership for the wrong thing, namely, to use their expertise and work on the system peradventure, to improve the system. And each of them is unable to trace the problem to its roots, which is the installed system, or to do something about it, then they yield to the system. So they live and die while the problem survives.
And in addition, while these men will work hard on the system, expending our quantum resources and all their acquired expertise to deliver National goods, dismally, the system corrupts them in return. And that is because corruption is inherent in the system, and the intent of the system is corruption. With the extant system, we should not be surprised if Nigeria remains fantastically corrupt. Therefore to keep shouting about corruption in Nigeria is meaningless.
Besides, we become worse, because we even lose our best citizens to the problem.
But the problem lives on, and survives all experiments. It becomes institutional, cyclical, perennial and complex.
However in this dilemma, every Nigerian is guilty, because every Nigerian resolves and settles for shortcuts to survival and expects quick fixes.
And why not?
Since the system appears to be stronger than Nigerians.
The result is that Nigerians are not looking for solutions to their problems again, but they are looking for survival, to contain the problems.
Nigerians become more resilient just to survive.
Apparently, the ingenious mindsets we inherited through our different genealogies at births, were traded off for the indolent mindsets we acquired at the historic Amalgamation in 1914. And at Independence in 1960, we only improved these indolent mindsets with sectional identities, while expecting miracles to make Nigeria workable.
Today we are at crossroads.
Every new experiment on the existing system dies on arrival. For example, for the 2027 General Elections in Nigeria, we have already known the results, and it shall come to pass through these mindsets. And because the process is not new, so the outcomes are easily predictable, with scientific accuracy.
So who shall solve our problems and how?
The only person who can fix our problem is the one who identifies our problem to be the installed system, particularly the political system, and is willing to subdue it. He must also be the person who is armed with the New Way and Means of doing things in Nigeria. And this should begin with choosing our leaders.
Given the opportunity to offer Leadership to Nigeria, he should be ready to overthrow the extant system, and install the New Way and Means of doing things which he has acquired, starting with our Elections.
So next time, let us talk less about tribes, about religiosity, about poverty, or about inflation, joblessness, corruption and failing health etc, of our patriotic Citizenry, because they are all produced from the system. Shalom!
